Three tax penalties and how to avoid them

No one likes owing taxes when tax time comes around. As we noted in a previous post, most people would rather pay taxes through their regular wages with each paycheck and get a large refund every March. But when people have the misfortune of owing taxes, it is best not to compound it by owing penalties and interest.

Estate administration costs that are tax deductible

Through a number of our posts we have addressed tax issues for individuals, there are some people who may encounter tax questions (and issues) that have nothing to do with their individual incomes.  A perfect example of this class of tax questions involves taxes that can possibly be assessed to a deceased person’s estate.

Which is better, a larger paycheck or a larger tax refund?

In October, it is not common to talk about tax refunds. After all, most refunds come in February and March of the following year. But money managers and financial advisors must be frustrated at this time of year, because their clients commonly do not heed their warnings about giving the federal government interest free loans by not making changes to their withholdings.
